In the beginning of the movie, we find that Oscar (Oz) likes a girl names Annie, but she is going to be marrying a man named John Gale. Sam Raimi, the director of the movie has now admitted publicly that this was indeed an intentional reference to Dorothy’s parents who were named Annie and John Gale in the original Oz books. I can’t explain why I have enjoyed both this and the original Wizard of Oz as much as I have, but they are a delight to me and I can not wait until the next one comes out!
