The New Through The Ages is a Civilization Building Boardgame Masterpiece

 

Through the Ages is a high strategy game of the highest caliber.  This is definitely one of the best civilization building games you can find currently!  Through the Ages does an awesome job of focusing highly on resource management and spending in order to build up your empire’s domination. 

The game components themselves are of an extremely high quality, even down to the instruction booklet, which is pretty incredible in its own right.    

The main idea here is that each player is attempting to create the best empire, and as the game progresses through the rounds or "ages," each of your empires develops more and more modern aspects.  Another unique factor about the game is its inclusion of ancient wonders and leaders, each with their own unique abilities that really make it feel like your empire is a part of each age.  So cool!

The game is for 2-4 players with a recommended age being 14+. Take the 14+ seriously.  This is no kiddie civilization building game.  Younger children will most likely struggle to grasp some of the rules.  Even after playing the game the first couple times, I still ended up having to go back and remind myself of a few details I missed. This is amazing for strategy tabletop gamers that are looking for a bit meatier strategy experience, but tougher for the youngest ones to play along. 

Overall, this is a very well made and well thought out game, with a lot of small details, that really make great use of the theme.  These small details are precisely why the gamer crowd is going to love this new updated version of the game.  True, there is a bit of a learning curve to get all of the details right.  However, the payoff for learning these rules is a very rich and rewarding experience quite unlike other game experiences on the market!  Through The Ages is a modern classic that just keeps getting better in my opinion.
